BlueMD Blue Light Therapy

Blue Light Acne Treatment

The BlueMD acne light therapy device uses a specific wavelength range of high intensity blue light to kill the bacteria that are the root cause of acne. More than 50% of adults and children suffer from acne at some point in their lives, many of those who go on to be chronic acne sufferers. Those with mild to moderate acne are excellent candidates for acne blue light treatments, as they are most likely to have p.acnes bacterium as the root cause of their acne. This type of bacteria results in the red pimples, zits, pustules, whiteheads, and blackheads that are the most common manifestation of acne on the skin. The BlueMD uses blue light that is superior to other laser, LED, or red light devices because it is pure, high powered light that works to attack the source of acne itself. Your skin condition will start to change within a few weeks of starting the acne light therapy regimen. You will notice a reduction in the oil on your skin as well, which is a major benefit as most acne sufferers also have trouble with oily skin.

In addition to the benefits stated above, many of our customers notice their pore size will get smaller, and their skin will begin to be clear of acne within weeks. The acne light is most effective when used consistently each week, and when accompanied with good skin cleansing habits. The BlueMD uses the high power blue light to kill acne bacteria during every treatment, but you can help increase the effect of the light. Washing your face or body (the back is also a great place for acne light treatment) before each session will remove dirt and oil, helping the light to penetrate deeper into the glands of your skin. This will in turn treat your acne much faster, and will help the blue light do its job.

Blue Light Therapy works on a simple principle that was discovered by medical researchers in the 1970's. They found that light specifically focused in the 405nm - 420nm wavelength band has the unique ability to kill p.acnes bacterium, the most common source of acne in teenagers and adults.

Dermatologists have been using Blue Light Acne Therapy to reduce and eliminate acne breakouts for over 20 years. This technology has been proven effective in numerous clinical studies.

We use the same proven 405nm - 420nm wavelength that dermatologists and medical spas use in their clinics. Our customers have spent anywhere from $1000 to $3000 for Blue Light Therapy at the dermatologist. They see great results, but the acne starts to come back within weeks and most were unable to afford another round of treatments. Trophy Skin has created a home-based acne treatment device that gets you the same results for a fraction of the price. Guaranteed.

Trophy Skin uses a proprietary, custom-manufactured bulb that emits the exact spectrum of light needed to kill acne causing bacteria. And what's more, we can prove it! We can prove that our light contains high intensity, pure blue light and nothing else. Take a look at the graph, showing the wavelength output of the Trophy Skin blue light therapy device tested by an independent source.

Who else can offer this proof? Nobody.

 BlueMD Acne Therapy Treatment

These bacteria cannot survive for more than a few minutes when exposed to the correct wavelengths of light, provided the light is of high enough intensity. The light causes the bacteria to die, which in turn shrivels the pimples, pustules, and cysts on your skin. Consistent use of Blue Light Therapy also helps decrease the amount of oil and sebum on your skin, and has been shown to shrink the pore size in some individuals.

When used correctly, the BlueMD is a safe and effective method of reducing or eliminating mild to moderate acne.  The BlueMD has been designed to integrate comfortably into your lifestyle, and can be used "hands free" while laying down, sitting up, or any comfortable position.  Follow these steps to get the best possible use out of the BlueMD:

  1. Wash and dry your face with your favorite cleanser immediately prior to using the BlueMD.  Make sure all topical acne medication has been removed.
  2. Position the light 4-6 inches from the area of skin to be treated and make sure the bulb is directly above that area.
  3. Put on the included goggles, ensuring they fit snugly around the eye sockets.
  4. Turn the device on and use for 20-30 minutes while remaining still.
  5. Repeat this process a minimum of 3 times per week for mild acne, and up to twice a day for moderate to severe acne.

User's Journal

Disclosure: This is my first Amazon review but I review tons of products on my interest boards. I won my BlueMD through an online giveaway (not through Trophy Skin)... I never win anything, so it's amazing. I sent Trophy Skin my unsolicited review and they asked if I'd mind posting here. Just so you know, I worked in skin care/cosmetics for a decade. I'm telling you this because I'm a skeptical customer, and expect you to be too.

I have normal skin with lots of little hard bumps that run really deep, never come to a head, and don't go away for months and months. I get big red ones periodically. Adult chronic acne - the fun goes on for years. The instructions warn that BlueMD will help most mild to moderate acne, but not all: certain kinds of acne will not be treated. My acne is hormonal and only on my face, and though BlueMD states clearly that it might not work on hormonal acne, I'm at wits end and will try anything.

Blue MD works on the symptoms which are the bumps, but it cannot attack the root causes of acne, so I'm realistic that the treatments need to be ongoing. This would be the same for all blue-light treatments ... in a derm's office, beauty spa, or at home.

My BlueMD unit comes fully assembled. It has instructions, a clear plastic shield for the lamp bulbs, and eye goggles. The unit plugs into a standard wall outlet and the bulbs are rated to last 3-5 years with normal use. This means that if this treatment works, it's a great bargain over 3-5 years of skipping buying useless topical drugstore treatments.

Trophy Skin suggests 20-30 minutes for a minimum of 3x a week. The company suggests skin sensitivity testing... and I did it. They warn to keep the device more than 6 inches from your face and to always use it with the cover on but, the sensitivity test says to put the unit 6 inches from the skin. 'Instructions for Use' say "no more than 6 inches from the skin". I'm confused here. I head to the website ( and decide that 6 inches from my cheeks will be my goal. It might be closer or further... after all, a face is not a pancake and I'm not actually measuring.

Go Into the Light
With freshly cleansed face each time (important), I put on the eye protection goggles and used it for 30 minutes. It's awkward since I have to be still, have good distribution of the light on my face, and have my face 6 inches from the light. I don't have breakouts on my forehead, so I focus the light on my cheeks to chin and one session is all I need for that full area. At first you will have to play with the set up to make sure you get the placement right. I put the lamp beside my pillow as I lay down (it doesn't work from my night-table to the bed), set an egg timer, put two quilted cotton pads under the eye protector and put it on, and then switch the lamp on. Actually, I tuck the lamp base under my heavy pillow for added stability since it's not on a flat surface.

Week One - I used BlueMD on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There really is nothing you can do other than lie down and wait out your time. It didn't feel like anything ... once in a while it felt like there was a gentle pulse in my skin. I love the very gentle warmth of the lamp. I fell asleep under the lamp so my exposure was about 1.5 hours on Friday - luckily there were no issues with my skin. The eye goggles are uncomfortable and give me blurry vision after use... I think it's the pressure on the eye itself and I had eye surgery last year. If you get this, use a sleep mask instead of the goggles. The skin around your eyes is very delicate, thin, and has no oil glands, so I prefer the extra protection in this area. I noticed my light does not get as hot as some have mentioned - it's touchable after a 30 minute session.

Week Two - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday. The break-out: those bumps start surfacing. I don't want to go anywhere looking like this, so I just stay home and use the device more. My lips are a bit drier and sensitive so I'm going to wear SPF lip balm in the light (but this could also be the changing seasons).

Week Three - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday. The breakout has minimized by the end of the week. Overall, about 2/3 of the bumps on my face have are almost gone. However two specific areas seem resistant to the light; along the underside of both cheekbones. I'm sure the light was on these areas. On the plus side, I got fast at setting up the lamp for my sessions... and discover that I can use a hands free phone to chat or an ipod to listen to an audio book for the treatment time. I can also soak my cotton pads in camomile for an eye-mask. I could even take up meditation - I'm a born multi-tasker.

Week Four - Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I was frustrated with those under-the-cheekbone areas. I have to say there are few changes this week in my skin, much to my disappointment. I decide to do high intensity treatments targeting these areas - I put the light about 2 inches from my skin and specifically on this problem area. I can feel the warmth of the bulbs and know that I'm blasting this area with full intensity. This is not how they say to use the unit, so I will have to wait and see if this works better for those stubborn areas.

My acne is reduced by nearly 2/3 in one month, which is great. I'd like to see if continued use will make me blemish free! I think the only thing that worked this well on me was taking antibiotics. Antibiotics were killing the bacteria from the inside out, but also killing the good bacteria in my body so there were side effects to long term use. BlueMD is killing bacteria from the outside in and targeting the action so only these particular bacteria are killed.

The Challenges: Staying still for 20-30 minutes, with your eyes covered, a minimum of 3x a week? This is a time-out and not easy to commit to. If you want to get results, you must be consistent. You are trying to kill bacteria which are constantly reproducing in your skin. However I did a little research on the hand-held blue-light devices and they take similar amounts time to treat your whole face. Thing is, with those you could use them while watching TV but they didn't get great reviews overall. This is not a portable unit: I traveled for a month so I have to restart treatments and my acne is back.

The Benefits: My acne started to go away in week two and my normal skin is still 'normal' (not oily or dry). There are no goopy creams, no 5-step routines, no expensive in-house treatments, and no internal medicine. It would pay for itself quickly and simplify my face routine. As long as it works for the your acne, then the one-time price actually saves you money. And it's a non-invasive way to treat moderate acne. For those who are reluctant to venture into birth-control, accutane, or antibiotics to solve acne issues, this is an accessible solution. Keep in mind that you will still need to have your basic skincare and if you have congested skin like I do, you will need to continue with your chemical or manual exfoliators.

Trophy Skin offers a good guarantee and I was really impressed by their customer service when I sent a couple of questions their way by e-mail. This matters! I'm not yet at my happy ending. One month is one skin cycle, but it might take 2 cycles to see the best results for my stubborn hormonal acne. It would have been hard for me to commit to buying a $200 device without knowing it worked, but if something works I'm worth it. I will continue and see if my skin gets better.

works great

I just bought this and i can already see a difference. I should have bought it sooner. The mask it comes with works great as well.

great item

I bought this for my teenage daughter. We do the same treatment at the dermatologist and its 20 dollars a pop. This is well worth the money. I love it and it has helped her skin so much. And you don't just have to use it for your face, you can use it on your back or chest.

The jury is still out

I received it about 10 days ago and have used it as recommended 30 minutes a day since, I have also been doing RED UV treatements at a local tanning place for the past two weeks, skin certainly looks clearer/smoother and fewer breakouts, however time will tell. i received my first request for feedback just a few days after receiving the light, followed by the final request just 10 days after receiving it. In my opinion BlueMD should ask for feedback after 4-6 weeks from delivery, providing users adequate time to truly gaugse results.

The way to take care of acne.

I'm a mid forties man who's had acne most of his life on & off. I've done the Accutane treatment twice plus different food diets, dermotogists and other medications. This BlueMD lamp is proving to work the best out of all them. I use mine for about 30 minutes everyday & less when I have no out breaks to keep up with. It works best in a dark room with the problem area about 3-5 inches away. I still have fast food & cola (just not as much as before) plus I've kicked up my water in take & stay away from dairy.
Another reason to use Trophy Skin products is because of their excellence in customer care. I had mine for about two weeks when I had troubles with mine. Sent an e-mail the night of the problem explaining the problem & how to get a hold of me. They called the very next day and shipped out a replacement the same day. Two days later I'm looking back in business. The lady I talked with was caring & concerned that I was being taken care of.

Amazing produce fast shipping

Amazing product fast shipping, I've been using it for several weeks and my acne is gone, not one pimple!! It's totally worth the money, painless and gentle!!

Did it work?

I've tried using this for 3 months and didn't see any obvious forms of improvement. I did a lot of research on blue light and thought it would help me, but it didn't. I have darker brown skin and I wanted to improve my complexion. I'm sure this works for some people but it didn't for me.

Did Not Work

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I didn't notice any difference in my acne -- I used it to start as directed and then increased to 20 minutes twice per day. I did this for almost 60 days and I saw no visible results. Would not recommend :(

Still not sure

My 15 year old daughter has been suffering from acne. We have tried so many treatments and prescriptions. I was willing to give this a try and she has been using it and the cream that comes with it for almost a month now. There is some very slight improvement, but honestly, I was hoping for more dramatic results. I will post another review in a month to update her progress.

Be careful

The description calls the item safe, it is recommended to do a 5 minute test before using the lamp. The test (I did two) was fine, but when I used it for a full 20 minutes my lips blistered.
I have no doubt the item works, it worked for my friend, but it is not for everyone.

Worked Great

I have to say after trying everything over the counter and having my daughter end up in the hospital over an antiobiotic reaction. I was in a desperate search for help for her acne. This product really worked for her. After 6 months, she still uses it almost every night, it is time consuming but for the results she has had, it is worth it for her.

BlueMD does NOT work!!!

This product does NOT work!

I would like to note that in my previous dealings with them, Trophy Skin has excellent customer service! I imagine that if I would have had a chance to actually use the product within the first 30 days, they would have refunded it easily.
Unfortunately, when I ordered the product in March I was in the middle of a big move. Then I didn't have time to use it until the end of April. I wasn't sure it worked or not, and spent the entire month of May out of the state/country for work (Kansas for the first week, then New York for a week, then South Korea for 2 1/2 weeks). I took the light with me, which is when I really had a chance to use it and see that it does not in fact work, at all. Unfortunately that puts me WAY past my 30 days....

I would like to say, I have had MANY salon sessions for microdermabrasions and peels. During those I have had the pleasure of having both blue and red LED light therapy done. The technology in general DOES work, I just think this product doesn't. In fact, my trips to salons is what inspired me to looks for an at home microdermabrasion system. That is how I found Trophy Skin's MicrodermMD. When I found it, I saw that they also had the BlueMD, so I thought I should try them both. I LOVE my MicrodermMD (and have reviewed it on Amazon), but the BlueMD does not WORK. Personally I think it is because in the salon, they use actual Blue LED's for the light therapy, and while Trophy Skin claims that their product produces the same wavelength, etc, I don't think it does (it doesn't use LED's).

In the salon, having used the Blue LED light therapy, by leaving the salon it soothed my skin and took out all redness. It also plumped it and renewed the collagen, and those results are visible immediately. Furthermore, within the first 24 hours of treatment, all acne, deep/shallow/etc, begins visibly clearing and going completely away! SInce this product advertises as being like that salon BLUE LED therapy, I would expect similar results! I have to say, I was very clearly disappointed. This product didn't sooth my skin, take away the redness, or do ANYTHING for my acne or breakouts. I am very disappointed. (I am very curious if their RedMD is like Red LED light therapy in the salon, since it does, in fact, use actual red LED's.)

- Good size
- Easy to use at home
- Convenient
- Cheaper than a salon

- Doesn't actually work!
- Doesn't soothe skin
- Doesn't reduce acne.

Life Saver!!

This blue light lamp is awwwessooooooommee!!
I love this type of therapy, just a few minutes of your day and off you go. No need for creams, or lotions this light therapy is all you need. Before this lamp, I threw away thousands of dollars creams and potions that promise something they can not deliver.
The only downside of this particular lamp is the elictrical device it comes with for lighting the light bulb. The light bulbs last a very long time, in fact long than the lamp itself. My first lamp worked about two years then went out. My second lamp worked about two weeks or a month? I'm on my third lamp, I pray to God this lamp lasts me a while as I really need this lamp.
The light bulb has four small prongs that hook up to this lamp. Does anyone one of any other lamp that would light this light bulb?
I'd give this product five stars if the lamp, or electrical device, was more reliable.

It really works! for guys too!

I was skeptical that this thing would actually work, as I am sure most everyone is, but on a spur of the moment decision I bought this thing on woot (woot is owned by Amazon btw) thinking that if it does work I would be ecstatic. Well believe it or not I am ecstatic. I've had mild to moderate acne for all my life since about age 13. Like most people I have tried everything: doxycycline, minocycline, clindamycin, tretinoin (retin-A), adapalene (Differin), the usual benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and the list goes on. Everyone is different of course but for me nothing ever really worked well.

Well I tried this light for 20 minutes a day placing it in particular above problem areas (T-zone) and in just 3 days about 90% of my acne was cleared up. I used it continuously for a few weeks and it kept everything down to a minimum. Better than it has been in many many years. I am amazed. It doesn't completely remove 100% of my acne but it gets rid of 90+% and what is left is so small you dont notice. Like I said everyone is different but this really works for me.

On a side note guys. Medications like minocycline will reduce your testosterone. Acne medications and many birth control medications do the same thing in girls as well. Testosterone tends to aggravate (boost) acne but honestly what guy wants to sacrifice his testosterone levels to reduce acne. That's why this light is so helpful. You can ditch the stuff that reduces your testosterone and use the light.

This is all my own opinion from personal experience and readings. I normally don't write reviews often but had to give credit to this product since I took a chance on it and it worked!

One recommendation: I wish it was a bit bigger to cover a larger area at one time.
Kerry from posted on Amazon on October 28, 2013 on May 22, 2014
Works just as described!

I definitely recommend this lamp and have great results with it! I have had recurring acne since childhood and into my late 20s. I've tried a number of treatments, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, retinol derivatives, cleaning solutions, change of diet, masks etc.... And while a combination of those would keep it under 'control' and keep from getting really bad, my skin was never ‘clear’. And there were all the side effects (severely dry or chapped skin, peeling, itching etc). When under 'control' I would have at least a few red spots or smaller swollen cysts under the skin. Even when not visible they were painful and I could feel them just under the skin where they were easily agitated into becoming big red bumps.

I happened to go to a spa where the proprietor asked if I'd ever tried blue light therapy, and pointed me to various research that had come out about it. Always a skeptic when it comes to spas and the latest buzz treatment I did a bit of research on the web through various medical journals/studies/websites. I saw that it didn't seem to work for everyone but that some individuals in trials responded very well to it. Ready to try just about anything that seemed viable, I decided to give the Trophy light a try since the light bandwidth indicated was the same as the light bandwidth that reported positive results in the various studies (405nm-420nm spectrum). Boy am I glad I did! For my skin, the light is highly effective in reducing swelling and reducing cysts underneath the skin before they become full blown pimples. I also find it speeds healing time if pimples do develop. I don’t have the same skin dryness with the light therapy I saw with the benzol peroxide or other medications.

That said, its not a miracle cure. I have to use it continuously and regularly (15-20 minutes every other day seems to work for me - and with that kind of time commitment its easy to get lazy and let a few session slide), and I use the Osmosis Clarify serum (0.025% retinol) in addition. But the combination finally has my skin CLEAR after years! So I would most certainly recommend it to others who are looking for other options. Not certain if its a "scientific" indicator, but I have observed for both myself and a friend who also suffers from acne that our acne tends to go down if we get bad sunburns on our faces. Both of our faces also respond to the blue light therapy. For another family member her acne doesn't change if she gets sunburned, and she doesn't see a very noticeable difference from the blue light therapy when she tried using my lamp for a couple weeks. Not sure if that helps but thought I would just throw it out there in case. For my skin the light has done wonders! I've had it for over 3 years now (bought it in late 2009), it functions well and I've not had to replace the bulb once. Thank you Trophy Skin!

No luck here....

After trying just about every "acne clearing system" on the market, years of antibiotics, and expensive laser treatments, I was really hoping that my search would end here. I was very encouraged by the reviews on Amazon, so I decided to make this purchase. I used the light daily anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I found that initially there was a decrease in size of the blemishes, but they would never quite clear. Foolishly, I continued past the 30 guarantee hoping for a miracle, which did not come, and the company was not willing to accept my return. I do find my skin to be less oily, but it's hardly a consolation as now I just have acne and dry, flaky skin. This product is not worth the time and money.

Works for my hormonal acne...

I've been using the blue light when I lay down in bed at night and after 2 weeks I see some pretty noticeable differences. However, it really helps me the most during my monthly breakouts, that is when my acne is the worst! I noticed that the redness of each pimple is less, the pimples hurt a lot less, and they go away within a few days when normally it would take at least a week. I liked the blue light so much I also bought the microderm from them as well, definitely going to keep using that one.

So far i'm a happy camper with my home light treatments!

Works like a charm.

The Trophy Skin Light delivers on it's promise. Although, it has not been able to completely rid me of acne, I can say that it does help control my acne without the expensive costs of going to a dermatologist twice a week. I did notice extra dryness in my skin the day after but with moisturizer it appears normal again. I would recommend this product to anyone who has tried topical and oral remedies to clear up their skin without resolve or satisfaction.

Update: just good!

So it's been over a year since I purchased this BlueMD acne light.
A year ago when I was struggling with a lot of breakouts on my face, I tried every scheme to fix it. I finally heard about this lamp and gave it a try. From what I remember, this lamp helped me A LOT through my road to recovery (my acne breakout happened overnight. I never experienced acne during high school and finally in college, I got severe acne like no other).

HOWEVER, what was really disappointing was how this lamp is built. Even though it's been over a year, I only used this lamp for a couple of months and during that time I found this lamp to be very problematic. The "neck" of the lamp has become completely loose and it has been a complete hassle to even get the lamp positioned in the right place. Instead of adjusting the lamp to where I want it to be, I have to move my whole body in a way in order to adjust.

To be honest, I really like the acne light itself. I just wish the overall structure wasn't so flimsy :/

UPDATE 11/3/2011:

Okay, Trophyskin was actually nice enough to send me a REPLACEMENT LAMP even though its been over a year since I purchased it. Talk about customer service!

As I see the new and improved lamp, it doesn't seem like the neck of the lamp will be loose anytime soon (Trust me, I maneuvered the neck in various positions and they all look stable). I'm starting to think that perhaps my previous lamp was just the odd ball. Overall, I am SO THANKFUL that I bought this lamp. Not only do I appreciate how much this acne lamp helped my skin when I most needed it, but I also appreciate the people behind this amazing product. Thank you!

Very Impressed

This light has helped enormously, where antiobiotics were not doing much. With 15 min per day, it has cleared up +75% of acne over 4 week period. Only downside is that the light is flat and the face is curved, so on cheeks, it takes twice as long because you need to direct the light on each cheek. Product is well-made and non-invasive. Considering the money spent on prescription medications, well worth trying. Literature says no UV, but would still be cautious not to overdo.

clear skin

I'm a 33 year old female. I started breaking out when I turned 30 and each year it just seemed to get worse. When I was a teenager I broke out pretty bad and the only thing that cleared it up was being on birth-control. Now, I didn't really want to go on birth-control for my acne. I would break out usually cyclically, and tried things like proactive, burt's bees natural acne target spot treatment, and some benzoyl peroxide acne spot treatment. These didn't work for me, I would break out, and dry out my skin. My acne hurt and I had small pimples and larger ones too. This has worked very well for me. I've been using it twice a day for 30 minutes for each session, for five days now. I know it is time consuming, but this has been the only thing to work for me. I haven't had any new break-outs and my skin is healing up from my old breakouts. I am looking forward to better skin with each continued use. Well worth the price if you ask me! I'm happy, my skin is clearing, I'm not in pain, and I'm not embarrassed. Once the skin clears you are suppose to be able to cut back on usage to once a week.

Made Skin Tone Horrible

I have moderate acne - some whiteheads, but mostly papules that don't really come to a head and are beneath the surface. I used used the BlueMD for a few weeks, and also took the supplement that came with it. Even though you don't have to hold the machine with your hand, it's still a hassle there sitting with the goggles on because you can't really watch TV or surf the internet while you're wearing them. It's also hard to sit in the same position for 20 minutes, especially when you have to have your face pretty close to the bulbs. I was always bobbing around trying to make sure the area was covered and that the distance was right. And in terms of the results, this machine extremely dries out your skin...I mean, you can feel how much heat is radiating from it. If you have sensitive skin, like me, I would say not to purchase this. It dried out my skin so much that it irritated my skin and also made my acne a little worse. My forehead felt all tight afterwards, and I saw no improvement from it with continued use. For having to do this 3 times a week for 20 minutes, I'd say it's not worth it. As of now, I'm using the Baby Blue Quasar which was worked much better for me instead -- it's not a miracle product or anything, but it definitely has become a integrated part of my acne regimen and it offers you more spot control and takes less time to do.

Please use this Frequently Asked Questions page for the most common questions our customers have about the BlueMD and the at-home acne treatment light therapy process. Feel free to contact us if your questions are not answered below.

Who cannot use the BlueMD?

Women who are pregnant cannot use the device. People on prescription medicine that is photosensitive should not use the BlueMD. If you are unsure about your medication, please contact your physician. Only children 13 and older may use the BlueMD.

Where on the body can I not use the BlueMD?

The BlueMD is effective on acne almost anywhere on the body. Popular areas include the face, back, and chest. Make sure to wear the included goggles whenever using the BlueMD, no matter what body area you are treating.

Can I use the BlueMD in conjunction with other oral or topical medications?

Over the counter creams such as benzoyl peroxide can be used in conjunction with the BlueMD. However, the skin must be cleaned and dried before each treatment with the BlueMD. Only after completing your treatment may you reapply any topical medications. For topical prescriptions, we advise that you speak with your doctor first regarding and specific side effects and/or interactions.

What kind of results can I expect to see, and how quickly?

The BlueMD works at different intervals for each user, so there is no easy answer to this question. However, a general guideline is that within 3 weeks there should be a noticeable difference in the amount and severity of your acne. It can take much longer for some people to see results, if you are concerned about going over the Guarantee period please contact us so we can allow an extension.

Please note that a small percentage of users may experience a temporary increase in acne, as the bacteria is pulled to the skin's surface. This will subside with consistent usage, and will ultimately result in clear skin.

What is your warranty period and what does it cover?

We stand behind the quality of each BlueMD device we sell with a 1 Year Warranty, covering all manufacturer's defects in the device and the bulb. We will replace or repair any defective product, just contact us via email for a fast response.

How far away do I need to place the BlueMD?

When using the BlueMD, place the head of the device 6 inches from the skin for optimal results. The bulb gets hot during treatment, so care should be taken when moving around or turning off the device. It will take several minutes to cool once the treatment has finished.

How long does the bulb in the BlueMD last?

The BlueMD bulb, when used in a normal fashion, will last on average 3 years. Replacement bulbs can be purchased directly form Trophy Skin for $39, including shipping. Only bulbs that are manufactured by Trophy Skin should be used with the BlueMD.  These proprietary bulbs are only available to BlueMD owners and may only be used with their BlueMD device.

Is Blue Light Therapy safe, and what is the proof that it works?

Over the past 20 years, there have been numerous studies performed by dermatologic associations around the world. These studies first proved that Blue Light Therapy is safe for teenagers and adults, with no known side effects other than dry skin in some users. These studies showed that light in the 405-420nm range was highly effective in killing p.acnes bacterium, the bacteria that causes 90% of all acne. When used in conjunction with eye protection goggles (included with every order), the BlueMD is a safe and effective treatment for acne.

How is Blue Light Therapy different than the creams, gels, and antibiotics I have used to treat acne in the past?

Blue Light Therapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment that works by killing acne causing bacteria, which is the source of acne for almost 90% of acne sufferers. The main difference is that Blue Light Acne Therapy works only on the acne itself, and generally does not cause skin irritation like harsh creams and gels that are full of chemicals. In addition, Blue Light Therapy does not suppress the immune system or cause damage like using antibiotics over a long period of time.
