We all dream to have perfect skin. Who doesn't want to wake up to a blemish-free, baby-smooth, pimple-free skin? You can proudly say "I woke up like this" and don't have to spend hours to attempt to cover up your skin imperfections because, well, you don't have any to begin with.
If only we all have that perfect gene that gives us the perfect skin.
Sadly, we all have different skin and we all have our own little ways to cope up with a certain skin issue. Yes, some people might benefit from chemical peels but those who have sensitive skin won't. Or those who suffer from cystic acne might find success in certain oral pills or topical acne solutions, but someone else won't.
It is tiring to get the same skin problems over and over again. Worse, it is tiring to see nothing works. When will it ever stop? What are we doing wrong?
Here are some tips that could change the way you take care of your skin.
#1. Wash your skin appropriately
It is important to wash away the grime, dirt, and makeup that accumulated within the day. Wash your face, day and night with a facial cleanser suitable for your skin type.
If you have dry skin, go for cream-based facial wash. If you have oily skin, stick to gel-based products or foaming facial wash.
Often times, we just use bar soaps to wash our face. That is a no-no. Bar soaps contain vegetable or coconut oil as a base and that’s basically why you end up having clogged pores. It is formulated to wash your body, not your delicate facial skin.
Also, bar soaps are often harsh and drying. You are stripping away too much nutrients from your skin leaving it tight, dry, and coarse. Save your facial skin and invest in good quality facial washes. And, it doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive!
#2. No to EXCESSIVE washing!
You do not need to wash your face more than twice a day. Over washing strips your skin’s essential nutrients and moisture. The tendency is you get dry skin with over washing, then your system will go overdrive and produce more oil than necessary to compensate the dryness.
The result? Glimmering, shiny, oily skin that is prone to blackheads, pimples, and acne.
If you feel the need to wash your face more than the usual recommended day and night, try investing in facial mists that mattifies your look or dissolves the oil in your face. Or, buy blotting papers to absorb the excess oil in your skin instead.
#3. Moisturize your skin
We wash our skin to get rid of excess oil and dirt but sadly, it can also strip away the natural moisture that keep our skin healthy. That is why, after washing, it is important to replenish this moisture.
Use a good quality serum (those with hyaluronic acid or niacinamide) and moisturizer after every wash. If you have dry skin, go for heavier, cream-based products. Gel-type or water-based moisturizers are good for oily skin.
People who have oily skin think they don't need to apply moisturizers. Oily skin doesn’t mean moisturized skin and moisturized skin doesn’t mean oily skin. Oil is different from moisture after all.
It is best to apply your moisturizer after a few minutes from cleansing when the skin is still damp (not wet!). Well hydrated skin gives you a healthy and younger-looking skin.
#4. Remove your makeup before hitting the sack!
Most people love makeup. If used correctly, it is a powerful tool. Some use it to cover up blemishes and correct skin imperfections. Some institutions make it a part of their dress code.
But then, with all the good things makeup can bring, so is clogged pores. It is important to wash your face and strip off all the makeup before hitting the sack. Otherwise, say hello to new zits in the morning.
That goes the same thing with going to a gym with makeup on. You will be sweating and clogging your pores if you put makeup on. Just, don’t wear makeup if you plan to sweat it all out. Clogged pores aren’t worth it. Plus, you will look like a mess!
#5. Invest time (and patience!)
Don’t give up too soon. Most of us like to try on products but after a few days, we give up and switch to the next without really giving the other product a chance to work its magic. It is tough to figure out what’s best out there especially because we have different skin types.
What may be doing magic to your best friend might be wreaking havoc on yours.

#6. Don't give up.
Sometimes, when we get too complacent, we start being lazy with our skincare routine.
A day of slacking off is fine but don't forego your hard work all together. Don’t get tired of taking care of your skin. No one else will do it for you (unless you don't mind paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars to have it professionally done.)
Incorporate skincare in your daily routine. It doesn't have to be complicated. It can be as simple as a 5 or 10-minute routine:
Morning Routine:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Apply serum (Hyaluronic acid, or Vitamin C, or Niacinamide)
- Apply moisturizer
- Apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30)
Evening Routine:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Apply serum (like retinol)
- Apply moisturizer
You may also include a routine that you can do once or twice weekly, such as microdermabrasion. But whatever it is you want to achieve for your skin, it has to be done consistently. So if you falter, or got lazy one night, try again the next day. You got this!
We hope these tips are easy enough for you to start a skincare regimen. Although these are very basic skincare advice, following these will help give you better-looking skin instantly.
Incorporate these skincare tips to your daily skincare regimen and work your way to having great skin all year round.
Exfoliation: A Key to Healthy, Glowing Skin
One essential yet often overlooked step in maintaining healthy skin is regular exfoliation. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells that accumulate on the skin’s surface, making it appear dull and uneven. By incorporating a gentle exfoliator into your skincare routine once or twice a week, you can transform your complexion and boost its natural glow. However, it’s important to choose an exfoliator that suits your skin type. For sensitive skin, opt for enzyme-based or chemical exfoliants with ingredients like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), which are less abrasive compared to physical scrubs. Regular exfoliation also stimulates collagen production, helping reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.
Sunscreen: The Ultimate Protection for Your Skin
One of the most important steps in any skincare regimen is applying sunscreen. Many people overlook the significance of sunscreen when it comes to preventing premature skin aging and reducing the risk of skin cancer. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 should be applied daily, regardless of the weather. UV rays, even on cloudy days, can penetrate the skin and cause long-term damage. To protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after sweating or swimming. For enhanced protection, pair your sunscreen with sun-protective clothing and accessories like wide-brimmed hats.
Keep Your Skin Hydrated
Hydration is a fundamental aspect of skincare, and it starts from within. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps maintain your skin’s elasticity and suppleness, giving it a radiant and youthful appearance. In addition to internal hydration, using skincare products containing hyaluronic acid can help lock in moisture on the skin's surface. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant that attracts and retains water, making it ideal for both dry and oily skin types. By addressing your skin’s hydration needs, you can prevent dehydrated skin, reduce the appearance of dry patches, and enhance the overall look and feel of your complexion.
Target Specific Skin Concerns with Peptides
For those concerned with signs of aging, such as wrinkles and loss of elasticity, incorporating products with peptides into your skincare routine can be highly beneficial. Peptides are short chains of amino acids that serve as building blocks for essential proteins like collagen and elastin, which help keep the skin firm and smooth. Regular use of peptide-infused serums or creams can help your skin look plumper and more youthful by supporting the natural repair processes of skin cells.
By following these skincare tips and understanding your skin’s unique needs, you can keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout your skincare journey. Don’t hesitate to see a board-certified dermatologist if you have persistent skin concerns, or if you need personalized expert skincare tips.
